Jake Shipley, IT support Technical Apprentice, Air-IT, Nottingham

The Microsoft Advanced IT Apprenticeship is a new scheme which is part of Microsoft’s Britain Works 3 year employment initiative. It allows businesses to develop fully qualified Microsoft Certified IT Support Technicians as part of a structured training programme split between intense learning and integration into the workplace.

It involves an innovative approach to Apprenticeship delivery by utilising virtual classes and e-learning with a mix of on-line study sessions that are continually assessed.

The fast track Apprenticeship scheme is run over a period of 11 months and will allow Jake to gain valuable experience in the work place whilst gaining industry recognised qualifications for IT technical support including:

  • Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist (MCTS)
  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP): Enterprise Support
  • CompTIA A+ Certification
  • Network+ Certification

The Youth Council is a forum for young people to voice their opinion on local decisions that affect their lives. Youth Councillors are young people who participate in a wide variety of decision-making activities to make sure that the voice of young people in Nottingham is heard so that they can have their say on what they believe the City should provide for them.

Jake has been an active part of the Nottingham Youth Council since 2008; he was also a member of the Student Council whilst at School.
