We would like to welcome on-board Simon Smith and Ben Curtis who join our ever expanding management and technical support teams.

New Staff - Air IT support

Todd McQuilkin, MD and Simon Smith, new Operations Manager

Simon Smith has been appointed as Operations Manager whilst Ben Curtis joins our ever-expanding technical team as Remote Support Technician.

Simon Smith, Operations Manager

Simon joined Air-IT’s middle management team in November 2013. As Operations Manager, he’ll work closely with our Technical Director, James Healey, to manage our day to day operations, developing new processes and strategies and making sure we are running as smoothly and efficiently as possible, so we can keep meeting and exceeding customers’ needs.

Simon will also be working in other areas of the business, including IT procurement, dealing with customer service enquiries and getting involved in project management. He will also be responsible for our quality assurance systems and making sure we are meeting and improving on our ISO 9001 quality standard.

Joining us from a large, national managed service provider, Simon brings a wealth of varied experience gained from over 20 years’ employment in senior technical, commercial and operational IT roles, in both the private and public sectors. Earlier in his career, he worked in IT support, specialising in corporate infrastructure and messaging systems.

Simon holds a range of technical accreditations, including MCSE, Novell MasterCNE, Cisco CCNA and CCDA and VMWare VCP, and currently has his sights set on achieving the Microsoft MCSE Server Infrastructure Certification on Server 2012.

As well as getting his teeth into some more technology training, Simon is also looking forward to being part of the Air-IT team. Commenting on his new role he says:

‘Air-IT is a great company, with lots of great people and I’m really looking forward to contributing to its success. I find working with others to be very rewarding – team achievement is very fulfilling and something that I really enjoy. Success is always sweeter when it’s shared.’

Outside work, Simon is married with three children. He enjoys playing the guitar and admits that his ‘guilty pleasure’ is reading books by Lawrence Durrell in his spare time.

Ben Curtis – Remote Support Technician

Ben joined us at the beginning of October 2013 as the newest arrival to our fast-growing Service Desk team. Taking on the role of Remote Support Technician, Ben will provide first and second level support to Air-IT and MBC clients who are experiencing technical issues. As well as providing phone and remote support, Ben will also be working onsite and getting involved in field-based support and client projects.

Ben Curtis, new Technician and James Healey, Technical Director

Previously, Ben worked in help desk and field-based IT support roles, amassing a range of skills in remote and client-facing technical support and project work.

He holds a BSc in Network Management and has built on this with a number of industry qualifications from Microsoft (MCTS), Apple (Certified Associate) and Cisco (CCNA). Ben is also a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Ben has settled in very well to the Air-IT Service Desk team and has already gained a further qualification since joining us. His knowledge base and strong interest in technology mean he’s been able to hit the ground running and is all set to become an extremely valuable member of our technical support team.

In his spare time, Ben has a range of hobbies and interests, including gaming, motorsports, driving, music and swimming. Ben comments:

‘I’m delighted to have joined the Air-IT team. The Service Desk is the perfect environment for me to put my existing skills and knowledge to the best possible use, whilst maximising the excellent development opportunities on offer at Air-IT to progress and take my career with the company to the next level.’

Welcome Simon and Ben

Everyone at Air-IT would like to welcome both Simon and Ben on board and wish them every success in their new roles.
