Launched in 1991, Investors in People offers a business improvement tool designed to help companies’ develop their performance through their people. It provides tailored assessments designed to support the planning, implementation and evaluation of effective strategies by focusing on business objectives and acting as a critical friend in order to maintain continuous improvement.
The UK’s leading People Management Standard, Investors in People provides a simple and flexible framework based on 3 core principles: Plan, Do and Review. These are broken down into 10 key indicators which define the criteria that have to be fulfilled by focusing on the following management practices:
- Managing performance
- Strategic planning
- Effective management
- Company culture and communication
- Developing people
Investors in People Key Indicators
To successfully achieve the Standard Air-IT had to meet 39 evidence requirements based on these 10 key indicators.
Air-IT made an 18 month commitment to work towards Investors in People in June 2011 (view certificate of commitment) and have been working towards achieving the Standard throughout this period.
In order to prepare for the assessment a Desk Top Review was completed on 12th March which explored our current approaches and practices in relation to the Standard. This enabled us to benchmark our position and identify any areas that needed actioning in order to meet the parameters of the Investors in People Framework.
To become recognised as an Investors in People organisation, Air-IT then underwent a formal assessment day which took place on 19th June. All company staff were interviewed in 1:1 meetings and provided first hand-evidence about their experiences of working at Air-IT.
We are delighted to say that staff feedback was extremely positive which enabled us to pass the assessment with flying colours.
The Standard is a very challenging one to meet and is increasingly seen as a measure of a quality employer. The achievement not only reflects the commitment of our company, as a whole, but also acknowledges all of the hard work and on-going effort continually provided by our fantastic team of staff.
The Investors in People Standard has provided our employees with the assurance that they are working for an organisation that values their empowerment and cares about improving their performance through effective encouragement, personal development and on-going training.
The accreditation is another clear indication of our continued commitment towards the development of our employees and provides a framework for the continuous improvement of our staff, our overall performance and the quality of service provided to clients.
