Derwent’s Finance & HR Manager, Jo Fenton, was joined by 12 of her team members at Derby cricket ground, where they slept rough for the night to raise vital funds to help support young homeless people in the Derbyshire area.
Other fundraising teams taking part in the Sleep Easy included representatives from Lakeside Community Primary School, Safe & Sound Derby, local authority housing advisors and YMCA Derbyshire’s own staff. And the Mayor of Derby, Cllr Lisa Higginbottom, was also among those who braved temperatures as low as 1 degree to sleep out in sleeping bags and cardboard boxes
Part of a nationwide initiative held at 22 YMCAs across the country, YMCA Derbyshire’s Sleep Easy 2013 saw more than 70 people spend the night at the Country Ground, raising over £12,000. Derwent Stepping Stones raised the second largest amount after YMCA Derbyshire’s own team, with a total of £1,581 to date.
All the money raised at the Derby Sleep Easy event will go directly towards YMCA Derbyshire projects. As well as supporting young homeless people, the funds raised will help provide a whole range of support for disadvantaged children and young people in the local area, helping them build a better future.
Principal event organiser, Grace Harrison, commented: ‘We are all delighted by how many people took part and how much has been raised in sponsorship so far…It was a great team effort by everyone involved – one which will make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable young people here in Derbyshire.’
Air-IT has worked with Derwent Stepping Stones for several years. Based in Derby, they provide a range of services including childcare in their nursery, support and advice for people starting work, and training courses on childcare and life skills-related subjects.
Air-IT provides full support and management of their IT infrastructure through our Support-IT package. This offers unlimited remote and onsite technical support, helping Derwent operate as efficiently and productively as possible.
It was a pleasure for Air-IT to sponsor Derwent Stepping Stones and show our support for this worthy cause. We’re always keen to get involved in community projects that benefit our key areas for offering IT support – Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and the wider Midlands.
