A damp Air-IT team after the race
The team recently took over the 550 metre Nottinghamshire race circuit on a very wet and soggy Sunday morning.
Staff were split into Formula 1 inspired teams – including Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes – and donned their racing kits to take part in a team endurance race swapping karts between drivers.
Fuelled on by fun and regardless of the weather, teams started off with a practice session so drivers could perfect their racing skills on the wet course before moving onto the endurance race.
Grid positions for the main race were decided by the fastest lap times from the practice session with MD, Todd McQuilkin and brother-in-law Jak Parnell from team Mercedes taking pole position.
Due to the slippery conditions, at times, competition throughout the race was more like dodgem car racing than Formula 1. But the rivalry began to heat up as drivers became more confident and battled it out to complete as many laps as possible in the time allocated.
First place mostly switched between Todd and Jak from the off, both members of the Mercedes team. As drivers’ tired pit stops were taken so they could rest and swop with their team mates, however, most were extremely quick to changeover so they could get back out on the track to try and gain any possible time advantage.
The morning raced by quickly and eventually resulted in a convincing victory for both Todd and Jak of team Mercedes, but not without hot competition from some of our keen car enthusiasts. Never one to settle for second best, Todd was also winner of the fastest overall lap.
All staff had a fantastic day, irrespective of the less than favourable weather. And we’re already looking forward to our next racing event where there is sure to be some hot competition in an effort to knock Todd off the podium and steal his championship crown.
