Air IT, like all businesses, has had to adapt its way of working this year. Whilst making sure to maintain our high levels of customer service, it’s important to make sure our staff still feel the sense of motivation and camaraderie that they would in the office. Here’s an insight into what we’ve been up to whilst we’ve been working from home and taking physical events online…

Our company values – Innovation, Commitment, Community and Excellence – are truly part of everyday life at Air IT, even when we can’t be in the office together. Our colleagues have shown their commitment and innovation by adapting to the challenges of working from home and coming up with new ways to stay connected. Community has always been a huge part of our culture, and has been even more significant throughout the pandemic – whether that’s coming together as a team, supporting our customers through new challenges or giving back to a good cause.


The Brew Room

Though we had already been using Microsoft Teams as our communication tool, it was evident that we needed a social hub once we all started working from home. The Brew Room, our latest Teams channel, acts as the part of the office where you would usually make a cuppa and have a chat about the weekend or have some lunch with colleagues. It also doubles up as a pub after working hours and is a great meeting place for the many virtual quizzes we have had!


Air IT societies

In addition to our usual Teams channels, we have now added some more social themes to bring together colleagues with similar interests. The Plant Lovers meet for lunch every month in the Green House, the Photography Club discuss their latest shots in the Dark Room, and there has been a clash of cues in the Pool Room…


The Pool Room

The tension is rising as we get closer to the grand finale of our annual pool tournament, which has once again been reinvented with a virtual twist! Despite working from home, the battle for this year’s pool champion has continued online, and the stakes are hotting up as we eagerly await the outcome of the semi finals to reveal our 2020 finalists. The pandemic has taken a huge toll on many people’s mental health, so it’s important that we take care of each other at such a difficult time. Our mental health first aiders are fully trained to support employees one-on-one should they need immediate help.

Earlier in the year, we held some wellbeing sessions which focused on things like healthy eating, getting a better night’s sleep, and dealing with stress. Rachel McGuinness from Wake Up With Zest delivered a series of informative webinars which were of great benefit to Air IT staff, letting us know how we can deal with the stresses of the ‘new normal’. It goes without saying that feeling good in yourself is essential to perform well at work, so taking care of our mental health can play a part in helping us to uphold our Excellence value.


Rewards and recognition

Air IT’s four company values are Innovation, Community, Commitment and Excellence. As part of our peer recognition system, colleagues can send and receive badges when they demonstrate any of these values. Points from these badges can then be exchanged for prizes ranging from extra annual leave to restaurant vouchers. Of course, restaurants aren’t open at the moment, so to make up for it, we introduced Just Eat vouchers – now we can all enjoy a takeaway or two from our favourite fine-dining and fast-food establishments.

Great People Awards

Clients can rate Air IT staff based on the quality service they have provided, and these ratings help determine the outcomes of our quarterly Great People Awards, which comprise of the Outstanding Customer Service award and the L.O.V.E (Living Our Values Everyday) award.

We’ve used Microsoft Teams to continue celebrating these awards remotely, as it’s more important than ever to ensure we are celebrating the achievements of our colleagues. Most recently, it was 1st Line Service Desk Engineer Ewan who won the award for Outstanding Customer Service, having only joined the company relatively recently – a great achievement considering that it is based entirely on client feedback.

Meanwhile, Internal Systems Administrator John scooped the L.O.V.E award for the fourth time, showing just how committed he is to demonstrating our company values.



Easter treats

We had originally planned to host an Easter Family Fun Event in April, complete with a children’s play area, Easter bonnets, and of course chocolate. Although it couldn’t go ahead, the Easter bunny still managed to deliver the goods to all of our staff over the long weekend!


For Halloween, we had a scarily good time at a virtual company quiz. Costumes varied from Pennywise to Boris Johnson…

We also had some very impressive submissions for our pumpkin carving contest with Peppa Pig pipping the rest to the post as the clear winner – we either have some secret fans amongst us or the younger members of Air IT’s extended family had the final vote??



Ten Air IT colleagues have risen to the challenge of Movember this year, to raise money for men’s health. Some of us are growing moustaches, some of us are walking/running 60km throughout the month, and some are doing both!

The pandemic has had a huge effect on mental health and has also resulted in fewer men getting checked for prostate and testicular cancer. Movember aims to tackle the stigma around these conditions, which predominantly affect men, funding much-needed research and services.
