Updated July 7th, 2021: As a long-standing supporter of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, we are excited to have been headline sponsor and taken part in the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation’s T20 Walkathon 2021, which has so far raised more than £4,000 for community projects.

Rising to the challenge

Several Air IT Group staff have taken on a 20-mile walking challenge to raise money for community projects provided by Derbyshire Cricket Foundation, in association with Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

The picturesque, 20-mile route took walkers from the Incora County Ground through several of the Derbyshire countryside’s beauty spots and local cricket clubs. On their return to the ground, participants were able to relax and enjoy the T20 match between Derbyshire Falcons and Worcestershire Rapids.

The T20 Walkathon is an annual event that raises much-needed funds to support valuable community projects, like the Foundation’s summer holiday camp. Running throughout the school holidays, these camps allow children to participate in multisport activities, create new friendships and discover new skills. The Derbyshire Cricket Foundation tackles issues that affect local residents, one of which is food poverty, and so the summer camps also provide the children with a healthy meal.

Getting back out into the community

After more than a year of working from home and being unable to attend fundraising events, we are thrilled to be getting back out into the community and raising money for charity.

The sports sector has been particularly hard hit during the pandemic, but physical activity such as walking has been one mainstay that has helped many people throughout the various lockdowns and restrictions. So, we’re delighted that our first charity event since 2020 was with DCCC, with whom we’ve enjoyed a partnership of more than six years.

The Walkathon was also the first event since the formation of the Air IT Culture Club. Made up of representatives from each of our seven branches, the Culture Club was created in 2020 following our expansion across the UK, to encourage collaboration between employees from all regions and departments.

The Culture Club works on various initiatives and events to help reinforce our company culture and bring staff together, whether that’s through our internal magazine, competitions, social events or charity fundraising.

James Healey, Chief Operating Officer at Air IT, said:

Air IT has been a supporter of Derbyshire County Cricket Club for several years and many of the Air IT team are passionate about sport, so we’re really excited to be able to visit the club once again and help raise money for a great cause. Twenty miles is a long distance after a year of staying at home but the team are up for the challenge!

Headline sponsor

As the headline sponsor, the event was named the ‘Air IT T20 Walkathon’ and all participants received a t-shirt with our logo on the front.

As well as being the headline sponsor, Air IT entered two teams into the event, with staff from all areas of the business.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been involved with the Walkathon, having taken part in previous years and sponsored the winner’s trophy back in 2019.

Richard Wood, Head of the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation, said:

It is fantastic to have Air IT on board as our headline sponsor for this year’s T20 Walkathon. Their support and the money we raise through the sponsored walk will help us to deliver some key projects that can really have a positive impact on the local community. The sponsorship and support of Air IT will help us to deliver a summer programme, providing both physical activity and food provision to children within Derby City.

Well done to everyone involved!

We’d like to congratulate all of the walkers who took part, especially the Air IT team – some of whom travelled all the way from Oxford and Birmingham.

At the time of writing, the Walkathon has raised over £4,000 which will be invested in various community programmes.
