On Thursday 5th October, CEO Todd McQuilkin and Marketing Director Paul Judge joined over 100 other local business leaders at Notts County FC, to spend a night sleeping rough in a bid to raise funds for local homelessness charities led by the CEO Sleepout initiative.

CEO Sleepout 2017

The CEO Sleepout was founded by Andy Preston in 2013 and has quickly become a national event which aims to fight homelessness and poverty.

Since its creation, it has raised in excess of £1.7 million and continues to go from strength to strength.

By doing a sponsored outdoor sleepout for one night, it gives business leaders the chance to gain a small insight into what it’s like to live without the security of a roof over your head.

With £46,700 raised at the first Nottingham event in 2016 and with more volunteers signed up this year, participants and organisers hoped to exceed that figure in 2017 with an ambitious target of £75,000.

A Local Effort

The CEO Sleepout in Nottingham was run in partnership with Notts County Football in the Community and the Trent Bridge Community Trust.

All proceeds will be split between two deserving charities based right here in Nottingham.

Emmanuel HouseEmmanuel House logo

Based on Goosegate in the city centre, Emmanuel house provides practical help to the city’s homeless, vulnerable and isolated citizens on a daily basis.

They offer a safe and supportive environment for people to access services that help and empower them to make positive changes in their lives and doing so with any statutory funding.

Relying solely on donations and volunteers, the organisation will benefit greatly from the funds raised by the CEO Sleepout at Meadow Lane.

The Friary

The Friary is a well-established and respected drop-in centre, which is working to end homelessness.

Located in West Bridgford, they have been providing practical services, advice and emotional support since 1998.

How you helped

At last count the event had already raised in excess of £80,000!

We’d like to say a very big thank you to every one who has supported Todd and Paul with their fundraising.

All funds will directly support both of these fantastic causes and help raise awareness around the issues of homelessness and poverty, locally and nationally.

Paul comments:

It was an absolute privilege to take part in this wonderful event. Giving up our home comforts for the night and sleeping on the side of the pitch in the safe surrounds of Meadow Lane was a small sacrifice to make and a small taster of what these unfortunate people have to go through every night.

We were extremely pleased to have helped break this years fundraising target along with our fellow sleepers. We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone that kindly donated – it’s very much appreciated and will be a massive help the these two fantastic local charities.
